Yeet Haw Coffee and Deliciousness

It was last Friday morning at the Pecatonica Community Middle School and Ms. Jurkovic’s (Ms. J) students were busy in the Yeet Haw Classroom Coffee Shop. Ms. J is the middle school Resource L.D. teacher and her students are learning about Math using real world concepts. The fun name, “Yeet Haw”, was inspired by Ms. J’s daughter, and her 16 pupils agreed that “Yeet Haw” was a great name for their simulated coffee shop. The math learners collect orders using an electronic Google Form on certain Fridays, and discuss what is needed to set up their stations. A money box is prepared and money counted out. The students work well together as they count, measure, check and recheck carefully filled carts organized with coffee supplies and snacks. Cup sleeves and food items are decorated (Friday’s theme was Dr. Seuss) using a variety of media. A coffee crew is selected (ie: homework is complete) to efficiently deliver items. The crew stops briefly in the workroom to fill the hot beverage cups, add sleeves, lids and labels, and then students safely interact with staff as they politely distribute orders with a smile and punch reward cards.  It’s a very smooth “operation”.
