School Board Seats up for Election

Pecatonica Community Unit School District 321 will have three school board seats to be filled at the April 4, 2023 consolidated election.  The three school board seats are for four-year terms.   Candidates who are elected will fill terms expiring in April 2027.

No more than three members may be elected from any one township within the district.

Candidates for the office of school board can begin to circulate nominating petitions for signatures beginning Tuesday, September 20, 2022. The period for filing nominating papers runs from Monday, December 12, 2022 thru Monday, December 19, 2022.

Changes in the state election laws have moved the responsibility of school board elections from the local board secretary. Those duties will now be handled by the county clerk, or board of election commissioners. Candidates may want to contact the county clerk or the board of election commissioners to see if there are places other than the main county office where they can file their nomination papers.

Candidates for school board will not be filing any paperwork at the local district. However, a limited number of packets are available for prospective candidates at the district office during regular office hours (Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm).  The county clerk will have petition forms available or blank petitions may be downloaded from the State Board of Elections website, http://www.elections.il.gov/.

Candidates may also want to consult the 2023 Candidates Guide which can be downloaded from the State Board of Elections website, or contact the county clerk or board of election commissioners regarding the requirements of filing. Candidates and voter can learn about being a school board member from the Illinois Association of School Boards, at: www.iasb.com/elections.
