The 2019 Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee was the longest ever at almost 1.5 hours even though student’s had a reduced amount of practices this year due to the weather! Nineteen students started out Round 1 with words like “happy” and “city” and as the words became increasingly harder competitors smartly requested its definition, to used it in a sentence or for it to be repeated. During round 11 Declan Handy almost gave up on spelling the word “recognition” but stuck with it and remained as one of the top contestants. During the final rounds 7th grader Allison McLevige and 8th grader Miguel Gonzalez battled it out but Miguel secured the victory with the word “fiddle-faddle” Miguel will advance to the Harlem Spelling Bee Regional to be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Congratulations Miguel and Allison and to all the contestants who bravery participated in the annual spelling bee.
